PORTUS™ High Availability Option limits firewall system outages to seconds per year

Houston, TX (February 8, 2005) - The High Availability Redundant PORTUS System (HARPS™) that improves the reliability of network defenses by a factor of 10,000 over standard firewalls and NIPS was announced today by Freemont Avenue Software, Inc. Fault tolerant processors are used to reduce the average unscheduled downtime for firewalls from 10 hours per year to less than two seconds per year.

According to FAS President Jim Livermore, "Up to now multiple firewalls sandwiched between redundant load balancers have been used to achieve High Availability. Firewall sandwiches require a minimum of six systems. HARPS requires only two systems reducing cost and complexity by a factor of three. In addition to being less expensive and more straight forward to administer, HARPS has 1/60th the expected downtime of typical firewall sandwiches."

HARPS is designed to provide high levels of security and availability for mission-critical applications required by financial organizations, safety-critical domains such as aviation, healthcare, infrastructure, first-responders and national defense.

HARPS uses fault tolerant hardware and software to provide fail-safe network security. The software provides real-time detection, isolation and recovery from both hardware and software errors. Cognitive immunity and protocol anomaly detection allows PORTUS to recognize and defeat attacks that have never been seen before. This prevents outages due to external causes. Self-regenerating software, similar to biological response strategies, detects and corrects errors to prevent service disruptions. High level software and hardware redundancy including quadruple and octuple redundancy allows multiple components to fail without losing a single transaction. Dynamic processor deallocation varies failing processors offline and moves transactions to a working processor. PORTUS keeps on running in spite of component failures that would cause less robust systems to crash. PORTUS provides granular scalable hardware redundancy to allow systems to be configured to meet the performance and reliability requirements of any organization.

The PORTUS Network Intrusion Prevention System with advanced protocol anomaly detection has been on the market for nearly 11 years. PORTUS has maintained an unblemished security record and has never suffered a security breech.
